After a great morning handy work in the house, we set off to Basel zoo around 14:00.
We pick up Irene on the way.
The Basel Zoo is among few zoo in the world where animals are kept in non metal caging environments.
Ticket prices differed by age from those who are less than 25 and 25 upward.First visible and unavoidable is the zebra, ostrich and hippopotamus pen.. The natural stream forms a barrial and a cool down pool the hippos. Three in number swimming freely in this nice cool water in this warm summer heat. Quiet interesting to watch.
Next stop was the monkey eco.. Where different types of monkeys and gorillas we're kept. The age of most of these animals date back to the late 1990's.. Quite funny the names they give to these animals.. e.g Ketewa..
Next stop was the bird nest.. Housing different wild and exotic birds. Quite interesting to see the water sprinkle system and other technologies that gives these birds a feel of their natural habitatThe elephant pen was a sight of an African or maybe Indian land.. Totally different from the general green nature of the zoo environment. An indoor pen also provides shelter and a cooling pool for the animals who waited in line egarly waiting to enter the pen.
At 16:00 we witnessed the feeding of the sea lions. Was a great show. There we're four feeding seats for these lions on which the fourth sea lion always held, making much noise.. The instructor said this particular animal did that every day because, probably it was afraid it might not get enough food at the last end. After lunch, the girrafs pen, then the crocodile house.in there was a smart termite mould and a smart means of allowing visitors to see and experience termite activity in their ecosystem.
The lion den was a type that brought these wild beasts very close to us.
We also saw hyenas, buffalo, rhino and some domestics animals around..
Finally we visited the reptile alle, with different snakes and lizards. The aquarium was among the finest places in the zoo..
Was such an educative day we had.
By this time we we're keeping in mind not to miss the Sea lion feeding show at 16:00
The Sea lion feeding show commenced around 16:05.
The aquarium was the last place of visit with different types of fishes and sea creatures.
Around 18:00 we had finished our walk through the whole zoo.
