21 Jul 2017 Strong Hill

winter view of Olympic

In winter as in summer, the Mont-Fort is an extremely popular excursion destination. Everyone can reach the place thanks to the lift system. In fact, from this incredible view point the most beautiful alpine mountains, from the Matterhorn to the Mont-Blanc, reveal themselves before you. The Mont-Fort is one of the best view points in the Alps, which can be reached effortlessly.
Having a view of this place and having this great adventure with snow discovery in mind was the agenda of the day.

Summer view of Olympic
Olympic room F8 had, 3-room apartment with Comfortable furnishings: large living/dining room with cable TV (flat screen). Exit to the balcony. Bed room Exit to the balcony. Open kitchen .
Also there was a Large balcony, south facing position and west facing position. From this balcony we had a view of the mountains and the ski run. The Cable car station could also be seen from this balcony.
We set off after our breakfast to the information desk down town after breakfast, to know whether a trip to Mont Fort will be feasible. With positive responds from the desk, we set off later in the day to Siviez. We then took a cable lift from Siviez to Tortin.
The lift ride was a remarkable one with a good view all over the who mountain and hilly sides. Also the farm houses and fields could not be exempted. Black cows on the fields, being prepared for the upcoming alph horn fesitival could be seen at a distance. Such green vegetation plus fresh air. Glory be to God.

At Tortin we took a cable car to Col Des Gentianes. This was where we took a 30 minute break and Sulley saw his first snow.
Cable car transport to Mont Fort from Col Des Gentianes commenced at 14:30. The weather condition at the top of the mountain was totally different. With such strong and cold wind. A whole world of its own. How beautiful thy works are oh Lord. We could see from a distance the Matterhorn and Blac.
After climbing to the top most part of Mont Fort, we had a nice warm spicy soup.Such a great experience this was, and a fruitful day we had. Its also incredible, how our host's rescheduling of  today's activities from yesterday, saved us from a stormy weather that caused people to be keep in a hanging cable car for sometime, an Old couple reported. She surely is blessed.
Backwards route was from Mont Fort to Col Des Gentianes , then from Col Des Gentianes to Tortin.
Remarkable views from the cable car also included mountain goats which could climb the steep mountain sides and survive in this rocky and could region. There body is made to camouflage them parallel to the color of  the mountains, which makes it difficult for one to see them. But we were lucky enough to see three of them. Also visible was the various water falls and channels that transports  melted iced water from the glaciers into surrounding bisse and electric generation stations.
At siviez we had a quick look and tour downstairs at the Technical room where most machinery of the statoin are kept.
On our way home we could see various alph horn players rehearsing for the big festival ahead.
Later in the evening we ate rocklet. Yes we all cooked our own food. It was such a nice meal, and my interest in rocklet i think its at its peak now. Maybe, one more rocklet before i go back. What a wonderful day this was. That is my journey to a strong hill...Mont Fort, the "t" is silent. haha
